Office Opening Hours
Our offices in Queenstown and Wanaka will be closed from 3.00pm on Tuesday 24 December 2019 and will reopen at 8.00am on Friday 3 January 2019.
Our phone line is available 24/7! So call us on 441 0499 (Queenstown) or 443 0024 (Wanaka) for all urgent services including animal control, parking issues, noise complaints, irresponsible camping and to report any roading or water problems.
Holiday Kerbside Collections
There will be no kerbside collections on Christmas Day and New Year's Day. This will affect other collections too so check out the table below to see when to put your bins out over the holiday period.
Make sure you put your bins out by 7.00am as collections start early.

You can drop off extra household recycling at:
Wakatipu Recycling Centre, Glenda Drive, open 8.00am-5.00pm, every day except Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
Wastebusters, Corner Riverbank and Ballantyne Roads, open 9.00am-5.00pm every day except Christmas Day. (A charge of $3 per 60L crate applies to cover the cost of recycling.)
The Wakatipu and Wanaka Transfer stations will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
Public Transport
It's going to get busy out there on the roads. If you're in Queenstown, consider taking the $2 bus. It will run every day except Christmas Day. You'll find the full timetable here
Overflow parking
Free parking is available for the busy period:
- 21 December 2019 until 18 January 2020: 2 hours free parking at Queenstown Primary School, Robins Road.
- 13 December 2019 until 18 January 2020: All day free parking at Wanaka Showgrounds.
New Year Alcohol Ban
A 24- hour alcohol ban will be in place in Queenstown, Frankton Arrowtown, Wanaka and Hawea from 27 December 2019 until 6 January 2020.
At all other times, an alcohol ban is in place between 8.00pm and 8.00am, every day.
Drinking isn't allowed in public place during the time, but alcohol can still be bought and consumed in licensed premises.
If you're caught drinking in any alcohol ban area, you may be fined $250. That's one expensive drink!

Smokefree Summer Trial
This summer we’re going smokefree at Queenstown Bay, Wanaka waterfront, Frankton Beach and Glenorchy waterfront
The aim of this smokefree trial is to discourage smoking and cigarette litter, and encourage both locals and visitors to look after our breathtaking views and waterways.
