Three community representatives have been appointed to a new committee that will work with the Queenstown Airport Corporation on noise-related issues. They are Gregory Miller (representing the Kelvin Peninsula Community Association), Steven McIsaac (Jack’s Point Residents Association) and Scott Freeman (Frankton Community Association).

The three were appointed by Queenstown Lakes District Council following a call for expressions of interest last month. The committee will be chaired by local lawyer Jane Taylor and will also include representatives from an airline, Airways New Zealand, and general aviation users, as well as a QLDC planner, who all have yet to be confirmed.

The committee has been set up in response to an Environment Court ruling relating to the Queenstown Airport’s Plan Change 35, which expands the noise boundaries of the airport to allow it to meet the expected growth of passenger numbers and aircraft movements between now and 2037.

Airport Chief Executive Scott Paterson said Queenstown airport was growing fast and must look after its neighbours. “The Community Liaison Committee will be an interface between the community and Airport stakeholders. It will receive public feedback and monitor how the Airport is progressing with meeting noise level requirements," he said.

Mayor Vanessa van Uden said the new committee would create an important channel of communication between the airport, the community, users and the Council.
