Final Days for Rural Feedback

Date:
Jun 11, 2010

Only a week remains to provide feedback on the future of rural areas in the Queenstown Lakes District, QLDC policy analyst Daniel Wells said.

“The discussion documents have been widely circulated and read both through council’s website and distribution” Mr Wells said.

Information on display in Queenstown and Wanaka council offices had also proved popular and to date the council had received an interesting range of written comments.

“Some people are concerned at the amount of resource consents we are allowing for houses in rural areas, while others have expressed concerns about the inconvenience and cost our current District Plan can have for farmers,” Mr Wells said.

Other comments received had reflected on how the council might change the way it regulated development in rural areas.

“So far the feedback is proving really valuable but I would still encourage people to have a say.”

All feedback would be carefully considered as the council considered possible improvements to the District Plan.

“This is an opportunity to influence the council’s thinking at an early stage. If people have ideas on how we could change our District Plan in rural areas, or even if they think we have the balance right at the moment, please let us know,” Mr Wells said.

Feedback must be with the council by 5pm on Friday 18 June, 2010.
