Lake Level Update Wednesday 5 Jan, 2011
- Date:
- Jan 5, 2011
Predicted rain over the next few days is not expected to create any significant problems for Lakes Wakatipu and Wanaka.
As of 11am this morning, Lake Wakatipu was at 310.926; above the first warning level but still below the possible flood level of 311.3m (low lying pooling on foreshore reserves). Lake Wanaka, at 279.247m remains below the first warning level.
More rain is expected but Otago Regional Council projections based on Metservice forecasting shows that if the ‘worst case scenario’ of 100 mm of rain eventuates, there may be limited spill into the low lying reserves along the Queenstown Bay, Kingston and Glenorchy foreshores.
The Queenstown Lakes District Council will continue to monitor the situation and liaise with retailers in Wanaka and Queenstown but at this stage, no businesses are likely to be affected. More information on lake levels can be found on the Otago Regional Council website.
