Queenstown and Wanaka teddies and their excited owners are preparing for plenty of gadding about with the popular Teddy Bears’ Picnics being staged in Queenstown and Wanaka on the 29 and 30 January, Summerdaze event organiser Nicole Fairweather said.

The two picnics, which have been part of the Summerdaze Festival since it began in 2004, have always offered a fun programme of activities, games and prizes and Ms Fairweather said this year’s programmes will be equally as exciting.

“All the popular activities from previous Teddy Bears’ Picnics will be returning,” she said. “There’ll be a bouncy castle for kids and their teddies to jump on, face painting, interactive hula hooping and a petting zoo for the children to get up close to real live animals. No bears though, we’re happy just dealing with the toy ones.”

There’ll be a dance demonstration, singing and stories plus prizes for the Best Dressed teddies and other competitions. The team from Q92 – More FM will also be on hand to provide music and add to the fun.

Remarkables Park Town Centre is sponsoring the Queenstown Teddy Bear’s Picnic and Centre Manager Joanna Hollander said they’re delighted to be on board.

“We’re proud to support this event,” she said. “It’s a fantastic day out for families and children and it’s very much the type of community event we like to be involved with.”

The Remarkables Park Town Centre Teddy Bears’ Picnic takes place on Saturday 29 January at the Red Barn just past Remarkables Town Centre between 11am and 1 pm. Admission is free.

The Wanaka Teddy Bears’ Picnic takes place on Sunday 30 January at the Wanaka Dinosaur Park between 11am and 1pm. Admission is free.
