Applications are now being sought for up to two directors to join the board of Council Controlled Organisation Lakes Leisure Limited, Queenstown Lakes District Council chief executive Debra Lawson said.

“A position was made vacant in April when long-serving director Jeff Turner stood down,” Ms Lawson said.

Serving board members, directors Peter Faul and Jane Taylor and Chairman Mike Saunders brought a huge wealth of experience and knowledge to the leisure operation.

“We are looking for another strong director to compliment the skills that are already around the table,” Ms Lawson said.

Key challenges for the board and the organisation included growing participation, value for money and long term planning.

“The goal is one of working towards reducing the dependency Lakes Leisure has on ratepayer funding,” Ms Lawson said.

A candidate briefing document was available under public notices on the Council website www.qldc.govt.nz. Applications to the office of chief executive would close Friday 19 August 2011.
