QLDC is cautioning boaties to keep a good lookout for floating logs and debris on the lakes this weekend.

Deputy Harbourmaster Dave Black says a large quantity of logs, branches and other debris is washing down the Matukituki River into Lake Wanaka following the heavy rain earlier in the week.

The same thing is happening in Lake Wakatipu, with debris coming in from the Dart River.

“This is a hazard for all boats. We’re advising people to keep a good lookout, as some of the logs could be semi-submerged just below the surface,” Mr Black says.
