Earthquake Update #2

Date:
May 4, 2015

One road in the Queenstown Lakes District has been closed temporarily due to fallen rock and a crack in the road surface, following this afternoon’s earthquake.

Mt Aspiring Road near Wanaka is closed at Glen Finnon bluff while contractors assess the situation.

QLDC Chief Executive Adam Feeley said that there were no other reports of infrastructure damage. Assessments of water and wastewater networks; bridges, roads and public buildings are underway. No reports of any concerns have been received.

“We have been in touch with all emergency services, DOC, the Queenstown and Wanaka airports and Lakes District Hospital. There are no reports that would cause us concern.”

Mr Feeley said that QLDC’s emergency operations centre would continue to monitor and assess the situation.
