Cultural Trust Artwork Being Installed

- Date:
- Feb 10, 2015
Work is underway to install a new piece of artwork on the foreshore in Queenstown Bay.
“Wakatipu Vessel”, by sculptor Virginia King, is the latest work commissioned by the Queenstown Lakes District Cultural Trust.
This trust is a charitable organisation working independently of the Queenstown Lakes District Council. As there has been some interest in the trust recently, here is a link to the information that is held on the Charities Commission website – the national register of charitable organisations, https://www.charities.govt.nz/charities-in-new-zealand/the-charities-register/search-the-register/ - type Queenstown Lakes District Cultural Trust into the search box.
The information includes the original Deed of Trust (attached as a link below), the Public Application Record, and the trust’s annual financial returns.
The trust was registered by local lawyers Macalister Todd Phillips Bodkins on 21 September 2000.
Of the original seven trustees, Jeri Anne Elliot remains on the board. The other current trustees listed on the register are Pauline Giles, Janet Malloch, Gary Mahan and Angus Welsh, who is the Chairman. Cr Simon Stamers-Smith is also a member of the Trust, representing the Council.
The Trust receives an annual grant of $50,000 from the Council, which it then commits to public artworks. The ownership of the artworks reverts to the Council, on behalf of the community.
