A low dose of chlorine will be added to the Arrowtown water supply for three days starting tomorrow (Wednesday.)

This is a precaution to supplement the ultra-violet treatment system, QLDC Chief Engineer Ulrich Glasner says.

Routine water quality testing has found e-coli at one testing site in the water supply network. It was not present in the reservoir and no other samples had tested positive.

“Adding a constant low dose of chlorine to the system for three days is good practice while the water currently in the system is flushed out,” Mr Glasner says.

The source of the e-coli detected in the sample has not been traced but the new ultra violet treatment system is proving effective at treating the water when it enters the reservoir from the bores.

There is no need for householders on the Arrowtown supply to boil their water.
