Happy Nappy Workshops
- Date:
- Sep 15, 2014
The Happy Nappy Scheme returns to the Queenstown Lakes District this month, giving parents more opportunities and tools to consider going green.
The scheme, which is aimed at educating and encouraging parents to consider the environmental impact of using disposable nappies, has been popular in the district since its launch in 2011.
About six tonnes of disposable nappies go into the Victoria Flat landfill every week, QLDC Infrastructure Engineer Andrew Edgar said. “If we could encourage parents in the district to use just one cloth nappy a day this figure would reduce dramatically. Cloth nappies might not work for every parent or caregiver but the packs are a cost effective way of trying them out and seeing how they work for you.”
Two workshops are scheduled for September, facilitated by ‘The Nappy Lady’, Kate Mead.
Kate says the workshops aren’t just about nappies, “ It’s more of a waste free parenting course with a focus on nappies. We go through all the costs of disposable vs cloth nappies, the environmental impacts, some of the modern nappy options, how to care for cloth nappies. But we also talk about other ways to reduce waste with little ones in the house. And we have a laugh along the way.”
Everyone who attends a nappy workshop will receive a free starter pack of nappies and products valued at $170.
Workshops will be held in both Queenstown and Wanaka:
