Frankton Track Work Next Week
- Date:
- Sep 15, 2014
A section of the Frankton track between the Frankton Marina and Villa de Lago will be closed during the day for about a fortnight from next week, while the surface is upgraded.
The work will start on Monday 22 September, weather permitting, and has been brought forward ahead of other scheduled track maintenance so that it is finished before the busiest period of track use begins.
QLDC’s Manager of Parks and Commercial Operations, Mike Weaver, said that the section of track that was affected would be open until 8am and after 5pm daily, and all weekend. Between 8am and 5pm users can take the alternate route, which is the shared path along Frankton Road.
Once work on the first section has finished, the track between Mantra Apartments and the Kawarau Falls Bridge will also be resurfaced. This part of the track will remain open while the work is underway, with controlled access.
Wilsons Contracting will be carrying out the project on behalf of the Council. Mr Weaver said that the decision to bring forward the work on the Frankton side of the track meant that other maintenance on the track at Kelvin Heights would be deferred for a few weeks.
