Aquatic Centre Facts

Wakatipu residents and ratepayers were being encouraged to get the facts on the Queenstown Lakes District Council's proposed Wakatipu Aquatic Centre.

"We have prepared a document that gives both background information and a concise summary of where the project is at today," Aquatic Centre Working Party chairman Alan Macalister said.

Not only did the information sheet clearly spell out the Council's commitment to the project it would also bring the community up to speed on the next step.

"Nothing has swayed the working party from the brief to locate the aquatic centre at the Queenstown Event Centre at Frankton. We are now finalising the plans and the cost and expect to have something to present to the Council next month," Mr Macalister said.

He said the architectural designs were impressive and enhanced by the work of Auckland sculptor Virginia King.

"We are still in the process of fine tuning those plans but I'm looking forward to the next few weeks when we can introduce the finished plans to the Council and the community," he said.

The information sheet was available at the Queenstown Council office and was featured on the Council's website www.qldc.govt.nz on the home page under 'what's hot'.

"I really encourage people to have a look and understand how this project unfolded and where it is headed," Mr Macalister said.
