The Queenstown Lakes District Council is seeking comment on stage two of its affordable housing study.

Stage one was adopted for public consultation in July with public comment sought until the first week of August.

"We had a good turn out to the strategy committee meeting when we presented stage one, although we only received one formal comment," Queenstown Lakes District Council strategy and planning manager Vicki Jones said.

A working paper had now been completed as part of Stage two of the project.

"This paper further 'pin points' the key housing issues facing the district, identifies possible goals for the Council's community housing strategy, and explores a range of options for affordable housing," Ms Jones said.

A cross section of the community had already provided considerable input into the drafting of the document and further feedback was now sought in regard to the following:

• Are the issues right?
• Are the goals sufficiently clear?
• Are we targeting the right sector of the community for assistance?
• Are there particular options which need to be looked at in more detail before a realistic set of options are presented?
• Are there some options which should not be taken forward for detailed analysis?

"The stage two document was tabled at the September strategy committee meeting. We have now made this draft document available at the Council offices and on the Council website, in addition to sending it to all the interest groups that we have been consulting with through this process," Ms Jones said.

Comments on stage two of the study could be made to the Council until Friday October 15.

"If we receive no feedback we can only assume that the community is comfortable with the direction we are taking in terms of affordable housing," Ms Jones said.
