The Queenstown Lakes District Council received a briefing today (Tues) on the Peninsula Bay Environment Court decision, released yesterday.
"It is clear that this decision carries major implications and appears to impose new standards on future variations and plan changes," QLDC chief executive Duncan Field said.
The Council recommended that anyone interested in planning and the district plan should obtain and read a copy of the decision, which would be available on the Council website and at Council offices in Wanaka and Queenstown from tomorrow.
As a result of today's briefing the Council had requested its planners and lawyers to give further consideration to certain key issues raised in the decision, Mr Field said.
"We need to better understand the implications and the possible options. Once we have that information we will place it in front of the Council," Mr Field said.
Council's consideration would be timed to preserve the option to appeal to the High Court (closing date February 18).
"The Council will not be making any further comment on this decision until after that date," Mr Field said
