Hotops Rise Comment Sought

- Aug 17, 2005
The Queenstown Lakes District Council is seeking comment from the community on revised plans for Hotops Rise, QLDC parks manager Gordon Bailey said.
The road reserve skirts the Queenstown Gardens and is heavily used as a walking track link, to and from the Central Business District.
The Council's community services committee turned down Queenstown Resort College's proposal to relocate the walking track and place a terrace and access steps over the reserve but felt the matter should be debated by the community. The College had offered $150,000 towards landscaping the reserve.
A public meeting, held at the start of the month, attracted 60 members of the community to listen to the college?s proposal. A further 20 people attended a site meeting.
"The developer has now furnished revised plans, as outlined at the meeting, for a one metre wide strip, 12 square metres in total, to allow for a step access into the college," Mr Bailey said.
The Council had placed the revised plans in the Queenstown Council office foyer, together with a register of comments.
"We hope that the community will take the time to look at what is being proposed and give us some feedback before this proposal goes back before the community services committee, next month," Mr Bailey said.
Comments on the proposal needed to be registered with the Council by Friday, August 26.
In addition to the college step access, the plans included improvements to the surface of the track, a winter railing installed, better lighting, some additional landscaping and signage to mark the track.
