Skatepark Feedback
- Date:
- May 1, 2006
A skate park meeting at Queenstown last night leaned towards four potential sites.
With the Queenstown recreation ground site ruled out we have been consulting on six other options Queenstown Lakes District Council director of parks Paul Wilson said.
The meeting was an opportunity for people to feedback on those options and offer up any alternatives.
No other sites were raised, which is helpful and clearly two public sites emerged as preferred, being the Warren Park site, near the high school and the Event Centre site at Frankton Mr Wilson said.
Both sites had strong attributes.
Skate parks seem to fit best in an urban setting Arrowtown skate park is a good example of that Certainly Warren Park fits that element of the skate culture but in time the Event Centre will also have a similar atmosphere Mr Wilson said.
He now planned to focus on those two sites in addition to the current Gardens site which still needed to be considered and the Impact Church site at Frankton which shared similar attributes to the Event Centre site but was on private land.
Its important that we still fully explore some other options Mr Wilson said.
Despite a relatively low turn out at the meeting Mr Wilson said the input was invaluable.
There is still an opportunity for the community to have a voice in this matter I really want to hear from both residents and potential skate park users alike I think the community needs to move on from the recreation ground debate and start to think about the next step Mr Wilson said.
Comment could be emailed to Mr Wilson directly paulw@qldc.govt.nz or sent or delivered to the Council by April 30 2006.
The discussion document was available on the website or could be viewed at the Council office on Gorge Road Queenstown.
