Costly Vandalism Disappoints

Date:
Jun 12, 2006

Mindless vandalism has cost a delay in the delivery of the long awaited footpath on Lismore Street Queenstown Lakes District Council Wanaka officer Barbara East said.

Somebody has deliberately wrecked a section of freshly laid kerbside channelling she said.

Resetting the section would come at a cost and a delay to the project The specialist crew and equipment would need to return from Alexandra.

It may seem like a relatively minor piece of vandalism but its incredibly frustrating when this type of senseless damage occurs in the community she said.

We could overlook an accidental encounter with the soft concrete but clearly someone has stood and either jumped deliberately over the new kerb or repeatedly kicked it This particular act of stupidity will carry a price tag of 1000 she said.

The section of kerb would have to be reset next week with the cost to be borne by the ratepayer.

The matter has been reported to the Wanaka police If anyone knows anything about it then please let the police know Ms East said.
