Council Seeks Champion Recyclers

Date:
Aug 16, 2006

Entries are now open for the second annual Queenstown Lakes District Council Waste Minimisation Awards, QLDC waste manager Dr Linda Wright announced today.

The competition was a huge success in 2005 with over 70 entries received, many of an extremely high calibre.

"I can't wait to see the innovative ideas our champion recyclers have in store for us in 2006," Dr Wright said.

Up for grabs was $1500 in prize money. "I'm delighted that local businesses have come on board to provide such a great prize incentive," Dr Wright said.

The competition categories are: residential, business and young recycler (aged 7-15 years).

"We want entrants to prepare a plan describing how they currently recycle, what recycling ideas they have for the future, and how the $500 prize money would help implement those future plans," Dr Wright said.

Entry forms could be downloaded from the home page of the QLDC website or were available at the Wanaka or Queenstown Council offices.  Entries must be received by Friday 29 September 2006.

The awards would be presented at the full council meeting in October.

"A huge thankyou must go to Big Red Design and Advertising, CivicCorp, Wakatipu Waste Recyclers and Otago Southland Waste Services for sponsoring the awards," Dr Wright said.
