Work will commence on Monday (August 21) on improvements to the Greenstone-Kinloch Road, Queenstown Lakes District Council Engineering roading manager Colin Jenner said.

A report commissioned by the council in the wake of the tragic death of two young Glenorchy children in September 2005 recommended a safety upgrade of the road.

Over the next three months contractors would undertake various improvements including a reduction of the gradient on one section, localised road widening and construction of safety barriers and limited tree felling, Mr Jenner said.

All attempts would be made to minimise disruption to motorists on the road.

"Due to the nature of the work to be carried out and the existing narrow road some delays must be expected on the road," he said.

It was hoped the work would be completed in November in time for the busier season.
