Arrowtown Camp Upgrade on Track

The tender for the new kitchen and ablutions block for the Arrowtown Camp Ground will be advertised tomorrow, Queenstown Lakes District Council parks director Paul Wilson said.

"We reviewed the need for two blocks and opted instead for a larger, single block, which will be more efficient to run," Arrowtown Camp Ground manager Greg Hartshorne said.

The camp ground would continue to operate while the work was being carried out with some minor inconvenience.

"We got feedback that regular users preferred to have the option of being at the camp ground regardless of some inconvenience and disruption," Mr Hartshorne said.

The new facilities block would contain 17 toilets and 17 showers plus a kitchen, laundry and barbeque area.

"We've also kept the old toilet block which will be retained and we will keep this block and the old ablution block open from October to December when we hope the new block will be finished," Mr Hartshorne said.

Work on the new ablution block was planned to commence early next month with completion prior to Christmas.

"It's a pretty tight schedule but we want to achieve the least possible disruption for the most gain," Mr Wilson said.

Other work at the camp ground would include a new playground, which would feature a 'space net', and a 're-laid' rugby ground with irrigation and lighting.

"It'll be a great new park and recreation area for camp ground users and the Arrowtown community," Mr Wilson said.

The playground and reserve were scheduled for completion in April, next year.
