New Footpaths for Lismore Park

Date:
Oct 9, 2006

Three new paths are planned for Lismore Park in Wanaka, QLDC parks project manager Anne Relling said.

The paths would go through the pine trees at the eastern end of the park.  One path would link Kings Drive and Monley Lane, while another would link Cliff Wilson Street to Little Street. A traverse path would connect the latter two.

"These tracks are already informally in heavy use, justifying the need for an established pathway. Part of this project includes forming links from the park to safe road crossing points," Ms Relling said.

The Wanaka Community Board?s community service working party had opted for the Kings Drive to Monley Lane path to be sealed given its heavy use. The remaining paths would be finished with compacted gravel.

"This work has already been flagged as part of the proposed network in the draft Upper Clutha Walking and Cycling Strategy," Ms Relling said.

Work would begin within the next two weeks and would be undertaken by Nichols Landscaping which had a two year contract to construct trails in the Wanaka area for the council.
