Media Advisory

Work gets underway this week on the new children’s bike and pump track in McBride’s Park at Lake Hayes Estate.

The asphalt trail will loop around the perimeter of the park and includes a pump track featuring a series of small loops, banked turns and jumps to teach children bike-handling skills. The trail is also suitable for scooters and skateboards. It’s designed to give youngsters a place to learn and practice bike-handling skills before they tackle the more challenging trails around the district.

The Lake Hayes Estate Community Association has raised $81.000 to construct and landscape the track. Funding was kickstarted with $11,000 raised at a community “party in the park” last November, and the remainder of the cost has been met by grants from Queenstown Lakes District Council, Central Lakes Trust, Community Trust of Southland and Skycity Queenstown Casino Community Trust.

If you would like to take photos of the construction work, please contact Briana Pringle, QLDC Parks and Reserves Officer, on 03 450 1705. Briana will put you in touch with Extra Mile Trail Building, who will be working on site. Click the image below to view a larger version of the map.
